Biography

Amer Zakaria is an Associate Professor with the Electrical Engineering Department at College of Engineering in the American University of Sharjah (AUS). He has been with AUS since September 2015. He received his B.Sc. Degree in electrical engineering (with highest honor – summa cum laude) from the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in 2005, his M.Sc. degree in microwave engineering (with high distinction) from Technische Universität München, Germany in 2007, and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in March 2012. From March 2012 to August 2014, he was post-doctoral fellow with the Electromagnetic Imaging Laboratory (EIL) and an instructor at the University of Manitoba Currently, Dr. Zakaria’s research interests are in topics related to microwave imaging and applied electromagnetics. He is currently involved in several research projects, which are the development of a microwave imaging systems for bone monitoring, material and channel characterization for millimeter-wave 5G applications, detection of cracks in conductors using non-destructive microwave evaluation and testing methods, and design of RF systems for CubeSats. Dr. Zakaria is a registered professional engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, Canada, a senior IEEE member, and a member of the IEEE honorary society Eta-Kappa-Nu.
